Free museum admission

The free-admission policy for (national) museums has changed overtime in England. I do remember Thatcher Government re-introduced museum admission during the 1980s. Prior to that, there were times when museums were free and then became not free for financial reasons (, of course). I did read some research discussing the changes. Will dig it out someday.
