Plagiarism

When I examined one student's thesis proposal a while ago, I told the student that the best way to write literature review is to put aside the book/article and then to write down what you learned/understood about the book/article. The student replied that as s/he did not know any better way to write about what the author had said, so that s/he copied and pasted the texts. I then said to the student that then it is plagiarism.  S/he did not realise that she had plagiarised.
